Thailand's tourist visa amnesty will expire this week with foreign nationals facing a daily fine from Saturday if they do not report to the country's Immigration Office.
Thailand's Immigration Bureau has issued a stern warning to tourists who have yet to renew their visa ahead of amnesty expiry this Saturday, saying they risk arrest or deportation by staying past the date.
Initially scheduled to end on July 31, the visa amnesty that allows foreigners to stay in Thailand without having to extend visas at an Immigration Office was extended to until September 26.
The amnesty applies to all foreigners whose visas did not expire before March 26.
The Thaiger reports Immigration Officials have stated there won’t be another visa amnesty, with those who overstay facing arrest and deportation back to their home countries.
According to The Thaiger Immigration officials estimate there are more than 150,000 foreign nationals who need to have their tourist visas renewed as they would have lapsed since the borders were closed and international flights largely grounded in April.
