The Michelin global restaurant guide has expanded its Thailand section to feature Phuket.
French tyre manufacturer Michelin has recognised Phuket for the first time in its Bangkok restaurant guide, which was released at the end of last year.
Having been published for more than a century, the Michelin guides rate restaurants around the world by sending anonymous inspectors to review dining experiences.
Restaurants can be awarded up to three stars, or receive a Bib Gourmand distinction, which recognises establishments offering exceptionally good food at moderate prices (a maximum of THB 1,000).

According to the Michelin Guide Bangkok, Phuket and Phang-Nga 2019, most of Phuket's 12 Bib Gourmand restaurants are scattered around Talat Yai, also known as Old Phuket Town.
Luxury resort restaurant Pru was among those to be awarded a Michelin star.
Known for its innovative style, the restaurant uses ingredients from its 96-hectare organic farm, as well as milk from Krabi to make its in-house butter.

Michelin Guides International Director Gwendal Poullennec said the quality of Phuket's restaurant scene was well known internationally.
“With Thailand’s Andaman Sea offering an opulence of refined ingredients and endless culinary inspiration, it’s no surprise that Thailand’s south is home to one of the most innovative restaurants in our selection," he said.
