The Finance Ministry has approved a plan to give 2,000-3,000 baht vouchers to 4 million people and free trips to 1.2 million medical personnel as part of a domestic tourism promotion.
A new plan to stimulate Thailand's domestic tourism economy by handing out 2,000-3,000 baht vouchers to 4 million people and free trips to 1.2 million medical personnel has reached the next stage of approval after the Finance Ministry gave the initiative the green light.
Known as Tiew Pun Suk (trips to share happiness), the proposal from the Tourism and Sports Ministry will focus on Thais planning to take inter-provincial trips between July and October.
Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn told The Bangkok Post the campaign is geared towards boosting the economy and reviving the tourism sector, said
Under the scheme, one million tourism vouchers will be allocated to each of the country’s four regions on a first-come first-served basis.
Krungthai Bank will develop an app for supporting the registration and the allocation of the vouchers, which will be provided between July and October.
According to the Post, they would have to register using the app for buying hotel vouchers first.
Upon checking in with the vouchers, the government would give a cash rebate to spenders via an electronic wallet and tourists could then use that money for spending on rooms, restaurants, spas or souvenirs.
While Thai government has reopened many more businesses and activities under its third phase of nationwide lockdown, the tourism sector is still stunted in the region.
